A Ryokan is a form of travel accomodation unique to Japan that offers its visitors a chance to experience traditional Japanese culture in a relaxing environment. Kyoto is a city long in history and rich in traditional culture. Staying at a ryokan is sure to enhance your experience of this historical city.
Upon entering the Ryokan, the staff will greet you with the phrase "Yokoso!". A ryokan staff member will then show you to your guest room.
All guest rooms are furnished in the traditional Japanese style with Tatami-mat flooring. Tatami mats are made in 2 different sizes, Kyouma (Kyoto size), and Edoma (Tokyo size), and are counted to determine the dimensions of the rooms. Please remove your slippers in the entrance of your room, before stepping onto the Tatami flooring.
All guests are provided with Yukata (kimono-like robes) in their rooms. Yukata can be worn as pajamas or as robes while walking around the ryokan. If you like, you can also wear Yukata while walking outside of the ryokan, and imagine yourself in medieval Kyoto in the days of the samurai and geisha. All guests are encouraged to change into their Yukata when they arrive so they can relax and enjoy the experience of traditional Japan.
